## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 17, 2018, ^MR. DAVID F. KENDALL^ DEPARTED FROM SKYLARK FIELD IN CESSNA 150 N7750F, AT APPROXIMATELY 1100L, USING A MAXIMUM-PERFORMANCE TAKEOFF FOR PROFICIENCY PURPOSES. ^MR. KENDALL^ STATED HE FIRST PITCHED UP TO VX FOR A FEW SECONDS TO SIMULATE AN OBSTACLE AND THEN PROCEEDED TO LOWER THE NOSE TO ACCELERATE TO VY. ACCORDING TO ^MR. KENDALL^, THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT CONTINUE TO CLIMB BUT INSTEAD SHOWED A DESCENT. ^MR. KENDALL'S^ REACTION WAS TO INCREASE THE PITCH SLIGHTLY TO GAIN ALTITUDE. AT THIS POINT, ^MR. KENDALL^ TRIGGERED THE STALL HORN. ^MR. KENDALL^, BELIEVING HE WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO REMAIN AIRBORNE, LOWERED THE NOSE TO A LEVEL ATTITUDE JUST BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT CAME BACK DOWN TO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed and his exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack during a maximum performance takeoff, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall. From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
