## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT EXPERIENCED DOWNDRAFTS TRYING TO RETURN TO AIRPORT AND DECIDED TO LAND IN A FIELD. ON FINAL THE PILOT REPORTED THERE WERE IRRIGATION PIPES IN THE WAY WHICH LED TO A SLIGHT LEFT TURN IN FLARE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE SAILPLANE STRUCK DIRT WITH THE LEFT WING AND SPUN AROUND, DESTROYING THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA314](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA314), May 30, 2018: Schleicher ASW (N428US), Nephi, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The glider’s encounter with atmospheric conditions where the lift was not sufficient to maintain flight, which resulted in a hard off-airport landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
