## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^(ADVOCATE FOR THE PIC AND PASSENGER) WAS ASKED TO GIVE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACCIDENT INVOLVING N5554X AND A DEER AT MTV WHICH OCCURED ON 6-1-2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 1430 EDT. ON TAKEOFF THE AIRCRAFT HAD ROTATED WHEN A DEER CROSSED THE RUNWAY AND "JUMPED" INTO THE AIRPLANE. NO ENGINE VIBRATION WAS NOTED AND THE AIRPLANE WAS FLYING "OK". A CALL TO GROUND PERSONNEL IN MTV WAS MADE AND ONE OR TWO FLY-BY WERE CONDUCTED TO ASCERTAIN ANY DAMAGE. NONE WAS REPORTED SO THE PILOT ELECTED TO FLY GEAR DOWN TO HBI (THE OWNER'S MAINTENANCE BASE). THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO INSPECT THE AIRPLANE UNTIL LATER SO THE PILOT CONTACTED HIS "ADVOCATE" ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AT APPROXIMATELY 1530 EDT. WHEN THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT THE PLANE HE NOTED A BROKEN REAR SPAR AND THE PILOT RELAYED THIS INFORMATION TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WHO ADVISED THEM THAT HE WOULD CONTACT THE NTSB REGARDING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. HE TALKED WITH SOMEONE NAMED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AT THE NTSB AT 1753 EDT FOR 10 MINUTES ON JUNE 1.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA349](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA349), Jun 1, 2018: Beech F33A (N5554X), Martinsville, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane’s collision with a deer during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
