## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND A BEECHCRAFT A36, N174DM AT GASTON RESORT GRASS STRIP ON A HEADING OF 240° WHEN HE REALIZED GEAR WAS NOT DOWN. AIRMAN PERFORMED GO-AROUND. WHEN IN RIGHT TURN HEADING 030° WITH FULL FLAPS DOWN AND 3 ON BOARD, AIRMAN REALIZED HE WAS NOT CLIMBING. WITH LARGE TREES AND MOUNTAIN IN FRONT, THE AIRMAN ELECTED TO ABORT THE GO AROUND AND LAND IN A FIELD. THE SUBSEQUENT LANDING RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA361](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA361), Jun 17, 2018: Raytheon A36 (N174DM), Lakeview, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to extend the landing gear before landing, which resulted in a propeller strike, followed by an aborted landing and a subsequent hard, precautionary landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
