## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT FILED AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN FROM PAINE FIELD, WA (KPAE) TO CHELAN, WA (S10). ATC CLEARED THE PILOT DIRECT TO CHELAN, VFR ON TOP (APPROX. 9500 FT.). THE PILOT CANCELED IFR UPON REACHING CHELAN AND COMMENCED AN APPROACH TO RUNWAY 2.

THE PILOT WENT AROUND ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT DUE TO BEING HIGH AND FAST. DURING THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THE PILOT NOTED HE WAS TOO STEEP AND FAST AND LANDED 1/3 ? 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT THOUGHT THE GRASS AT THE RUNWAY END WAS CLEAR AND SMOOTH AND ELECTED TO REMAIN ON THE GROUND RATHER THAN PERFORM ANOTHER GO-AROUND.

DURING THE ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED THROUGH THE GRASS AREA, CROSSED A ROAD, AND ENTERED A FIELD WHERE THE LEFT WING HIT AN UNKNOWN OBJECT. THE AIRCRAFT SPUN 180 DEGREES BEFORE COMING TO REST IN THE FIELD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

THE OUTBOARD 1/3 SECTION OF THE LEFT WING WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

THE PILOT STATED HE WAS DISTRACTED BY THE TERRAIN WARNING ALERTS DURING HIS APPROACHES. THE WEATHER WAS VMC.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA384](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA384), Jun 27, 2018: Columbia Aircraft Mfg LC41 (N1266C), Chelan, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper approach, which resulted in the airplane landing long and a subsequent runway overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
