## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS APPROACHING THE DOWNWIND LEG, AT WHICH POINT ATC ADVISED THAT THE CURRENT WIND WAS 215 AT APPROXIMATELY 15 KNOTS WITH POSSIBLE HIGHER GUSTS FROM THIS DIRECTION. WHILE ON THE DOWNWIND LEG, PILOT OBSERVED THE WIND SOCK TO BE BLOWING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ATC REPORT, AND KEPT CONFIRMING THIS ON FINAL APPROACH AS WELL. ON FINAL APPROACH PILOT HAD EVERYTHING LINED UP WITH THE PROPER PICTURE. DUE TO THE LEFT CROSSWIND, HE HAD LEFT AILERON INTO THE WIND AND SUBSEQUENTLY USED RIGHT RUDDER INPUT TO CONTROL THE PLANE AND KEEP IT STRAIGHT IN-LINE WITH THE RUNWAY. THE APPROACH FELT NORMAL UNTIL THE REAR WHEELS JUST TOUCHED THE GROUND. AT THIS POINT, THE PLANE BEGAN TURNING HARD TO THE LEFT AND FELT AS THOUGH THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY HARD GUST/CROSSWIND AGAINST THE PLANE. DUE TO THE SUDDEN MOTION TO THE LEFT, HE ATTEMPTED TO INPUT RIGHT RUDDER WITH NO SUCCESS AT RECOVERING ALL OF THE WHEELS FROM SKIDDING AND THE PLANE CONTINUING HARD LEFT. THE INPUT OF BRAKES AT THIS POINT FELT LIKE THEY HAD LITTLE EFFECT. AIRCRAFT SPUN OFF THE RUNWAY AND SETTLED ONTO THE INFIELD GRASS ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
