## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 29, 2018, ABOUT 1245 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A CHAMPION 7GCAA AIRPLANE, N9026L,

IMPACTED TERRAIN WHILE MANEUVERING NEAR ARTHUR, NEBRASKA. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED, AND THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

SEVERAL WITNESSES ATTENDING A CATTLE BRANDING EVENT OBSERVED THE PILOT PERFORMING AEROBATIC MANEUVERS. FOLLOWING A LOOP AND ROLLING MANEUVER, THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO CLIMB WITH A VERTICAL ATTITUDE. THE AIRPLANE SUBSEQUENTLY ROLLED LEFT AND MADE A SERIES OF LEFT TURNING SPINS, WHICH

CONTINUED UNTIL GROUND IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN18FA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN18FA242), Jun 29, 2018: Champion 7GCAA (N9026L), Arthur, NE, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to recover from a spin for reasons that could not be determined based on the available information.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
