## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN LANDED HIS AIRCRAFT TO THE SOUTH AND CONTINUED HIS LANDING ROLL OUT FURTHER SOUTH THAN USUAL DUE TO AN AIRCRAFT LANDING BEHIND HIM. HE TAXIED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY TO BE OFF THE LANDING SURFACE IN A CUT OUT OF THE TREELINE. HE THEN WENT TO MAKE A 180 DEGREE TURN TO THE LEFT ONCE THE OTHER AICRAFT HAD CLEARED THE RUNWAY AND DID NOT NOTICE HIS RIGHT WING WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE TREELINE. A BRANCH ENTERED THE GAP BETWEEN END OF THE RIGHT WINGTIP AND AILERON CAUSING THE AILERON ATTACH POINTS TO SEPARATE FROM THE REAR SPAR PULLING DIRECTLY OUT OF THE WOOD. THE WINGTIP AND AILERON WERE ALSO DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS ADVERSELY AFFECTING THE FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRMAN WAS COUNSELED ON ASSURING PROPER CLEARANCE FROM OBSTACLES DURING TAXI OPERATIONS.

NOTE: THE AIRCRAFT HAS ESTIMATED 2000 TOTAL AIRFRAME HOURS WITH NO AIRCRAFT LOGS. IT HAS ACQUIRED 201.3 HOURS SINCE TOTAL RESTORATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA417](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA417), Jun 30, 2018: Travel Air 2000 (N8870), Shelter Island, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from a tree during taxi.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
