## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT OF N114JM LANDED AT A PRIVATE LANDING STRIP AT THE ADDRESS OF 5765 CTY RD Q, IN WAUNAKEE, WISCONSIN WITH PERMISSION FROM THE OWNER OF THE LANDING STRIP. THE LANDING WAS MADE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE LANDING STRIP IS VERY NARROW AND BORDERED BY VERY TALL CORN ON BOTH SIDES. ON TAKEOFF, THE PILOT STATED THAT THE RIGHT WING MADE CONTACT WITH THE CORN WHILE HE WAS STILL ON THE GROUND ROLL. WHEN THE WING MADE CONTACT WITH THE CORN THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE RIGHT, INTO THE CORNFIELD WHERE IT CAME TO REST. THE PILOT SUSTAINED NO INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE RESULTING IN THE CLASSIFICATION AS AN ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA400](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA400), Jul 6, 2018: Champion 8GCBC (N114JM), Waunakee, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from tall corn along the edge of the airstrip during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
