## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE CRUISING AT 9,500 MSL, PILOT FELT A NOTICABLE VIBRATION FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BANG. PILOT THEN NOTICED A HOLE ON THE TOP OF THE LEFT ENGINE PANEL. PILOT THEN CONTACTED TYS APPROACH FOR VECTORS TO NEAREST AIRPORT. DURING THIS PROCESS, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT ROUGH. ONCE THE ENGINE STOPPED, PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IMMEDIATELY IN AN OPEN FIELD. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT OR PROPERTY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
