## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PILOT DEPARTED TX42 FOR TRANSITION FLIGHT TO KIWS AFTER MAINTENANCE. TEN MINUTES INTO TRANSITION FLIGHT, THE PILOT FELT AN ENGINE VIBRATION AND LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT MADE AN OFF FIELD LANDING. ON-SITE INVESTIGATION REVEALED A 3 X 2 INCH HOLE IN TOP RIGHT ENGINE CASE WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE AN INTERNAL SEPARATION OF PISTON ROD. INTERIOR OF ENGINE COWL DID NOT DISPLAY EVIDENCE OF ENGINE OIL SPRAY. NTSB STATED AN ENGINE TEAR DOWN IS SCHEDULED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PILOT OR PERSONS AND PROPERTY ON GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN18LA276](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN18LA276), Jul 17, 2018: Beech V35 (N228Q), Katy, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: Maintenance personnel’s failure to remove a paper towel from the engine during recent maintenance, which resulted in oil starvation, the failure of a connecting rod, and a catastrophic engine failure…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
