## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 17, 2018, THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) OF N969RR, A CESSNA C172 AIRCRAFT, WAS TAXIING TO DEPART CHICAGO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT, IL (PWK). THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE PIC WAS A STUDENT PILOT WHO HAD JUST COMPLETED A DUAL FLIGHT AND WAS TAXIING TO THE ACTIVE RUNWAY FOR A SUPERVISED SOLO.

THE PIC TAXIED SOUTH FROM HIS PARKING SPOT IN ROW 1 OF AREA 2. A FUEL TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE GRASS EAST OF THE TAXIWAY OF ROW 1 AND HAD COMPLETED REFUELING AN AIRCRAFT. THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO TAXI AROUND THE FUEL TRUCK, BUT DID NOT HAVE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE RIGHT REAR OF THE FUEL TRUCK WITH THE LEFT WING, PIVOTED LEFT, AND STRUCK THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER OF THE TRUCK WITH THE PROPELLER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO FUEL SPILL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA588](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA588), Jul 17, 2018: Cessna 172 (N969RR), Chicago, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain clearance from a truck while taxiing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
