## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT PILOT RECEIVED A TEXT CONFIRMATION FROM HIS FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR TO ALLOW HIM TO PRACTISE FOR HIS UPCOMING PPL CHECKRIDE.

UPON TAKEOFF, PRACTICING SOFT-FIELD TAKEOFF, PILOT DID NOT APPLY ENOUGH RIGHT RUDDER AND LEFT AILERON TO COMPENSATE FOR LEFT CROSS WIND AND LEFT TURNING TENDENCIES. THEREFORE THE PLANE DEVIATED LEFT FROM THE CENTERLINE STRIKING A RUNWAY LIGHT FOLLOWED BY A TAXIWAY DIRECTIONAL SIGN WITH LEFT WHEEL. UPON WIND DRIFT, THE AIRMAN ABORTED THE TAKEOFF AT APPROXIMATELY 35 KNOTS.

THE AIRMAN STATEMENT LATER REVEALED HE ALSO HAD NOT APPLIED FULL POWER ON TAKEOFF ROLL TO "SIMULATE THE EFFECT FOR SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF".

AIRPLANE WAS NOT TOPPED OFF FROM PREVIOUS FLIGHT SO WEIGHT WAS LIGHTER, WELL UNDER MAX TAKEOFF WEIGHT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
