## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AN INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH N132RM A CE-172 ON WEDNESDAY 7/25/2018. AN INSTRUCTOR AND HIS STUDENT WERE PRACTICING FORWARD SLIPS IN THE PRACTICE AREA WHEN THEY HEARD A LOUD BANG. THEY FOUND THE RUDDER WAS STUCK HARD TO THE LEFT. THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN THE AIR AND CROSS-CONTROLLED THE AIRPLANE IN ORDER TO GET IT BACK TO LUK. THEY DID NOT DECLARE AN EMERGENCY AND WERE ABLE TO LAND WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER LANDING IT WAS FOUND THAT THE LEAD COUNTERWEIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE RUDDER HAD COME LOOSE AND SLID FORWARD WHEN THE RUDDER WAS FULL LEFT. THE COUNTERWEIGHT WAS JAMMED BETWEEN THE RUDDER AND THE VERTICAL STABILIZER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
