## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 1 2018, THE PILOT LANDED 55 MILES NORTHEAST OF FAIRBANKS AT A REMOTE GRAVEL AND DIRT AIR STRIP ON LIME PEAK. THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE PERFORMING OFFICIAL DUTIES FOR THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT. BEFORE DEPARTURE THE PILOT CONDUCTED AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 ALASKA TIME THE PILOT TOOK OFF FROM THE REMOTE AIR STRIP WITH NO INCIDENT. HE LANDED AT FAIRBANKS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. AFTER PARKING THE AIRCRAFT HE CONDUCTED AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. HE DISCOVERED AN IMPACT MARK ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AND A 2 INCH HOLE IN THE FABRIC OF THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. HE DOES NOT RECALL HTTING ANYTHING NOR HEARING OR FEELING THE DAMAGE OCCUR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA521](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA521), Aug 1, 2018: Cub Crafters CC18 (N437CC), Fairbanks, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s premature liftoff and subsequent settling of the airplane to the gravel airstrip.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
