## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WERE FLYING N5269S AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT ON AUGUST 1, 2018. THEY WERE PERFORMING A LANDING AT KFNL WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. THEY DECIDED TO MAKE A FULL STOP LANDING BUT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (THE INSTRUCTOR) CONTINUED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. HE BECAME DISTRACTED AND DID NOT PERFORM THE ENTIRE PRE-LANDING CHECKLIST, FAILING TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR. THE PRECAUTIONARY HORN DID NOT GO OFF DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE THROTTLE HAD NOT BEEN RETARDED ENOUGH TO HIT THE HORN SWITCH. WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS RETARDED DURING THE FLARE, THE HORN SOUNDED BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY.

THIS INVESTIGATION IS BEING CLOSED WITH INFORMAL ACTION, COUNSELING.

SEE PTRS 201809028 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
