## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED THE FLYING B RANCH PRIVATE AIRSTRIP AND FLEW TO THE BIG CREEK AIRSTRIP (U60).

THE PILOT?S WIFE RECORDED THE LANDING AT THE BIG CREEK AIRSTRIP (U60) ON HER PHONE. THE VIDEO REVEALS THAT THE WEATHER WAS VFR AND THE WINDSOCK WAS NOT INDICATING ANY WIND PRESENT AT THE TIME OF LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN WITHOUT INCIDENT. DURING THE LANDING ROLL OUT THE PILOT RETRACTED THE FLAPS AND THE AIRCRAFT MADE A HARD TURN TO THE LEFT.

THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER HE RETRACTED THE FLAPS HE APPLIED EQUAL BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS IS NOT VISIBLE ON THE VIDEO. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES IS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT MADE THE HARD LEFT TURN. THE PILOT STATED THE HE TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL FIRST BY RIGHT RUDDER AND THEN WITH RIGHT BRAKE. IT CAN BE SEEN IN THE VIDEO THE PILOT USING FULL RIGHT RUDDER.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AT AN APPROXIMATE 40° ANGLE FROM THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN IRRIGATION LINE AND CONTINUED STRAIGHT THROUGH A FENCE, CONTACTING THE FENCE POST AND INTO A LARGE WILLOW BUSH.

EXAMINATION OF THE SITE SHOWS THAT TIRE TRACKS FROM THE RIGHT MAIN CAN BE SEEN ON THE TURF RUNWAY TO THE IRRIGATION LINE. THIS IS DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF CENTRIFUGAL FORCE AND MOST OF THE WEIGHT OF THE AIRCRAFT BEING ON THE RIGHT MAIN. NO NOTICEABLE TRACKS FROM THE LEFT MAIN ARE FOUND UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT CROSSES OVER THE IRRIGATION LINE. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTS THE IRRIGATION LINE IT CONTINUES IN A RELATIVELY STRAIGHT LINE UNTIL IT CONTACTS THE FENCE. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED THROUGH THE FENCE AND INTO A WILLOW BUSH.

NO ANOMALIES WERE FOUND WITH THE AIRCRAFT BRAKES AT THIS TIME.

CONCLUSION, THE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING LANDING ROLL OUT AND TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL USING THE RUDDER AT A POINT WHEN THE RUDDER WOULD BE INEFFECTIVE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR18LA216](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR18LA216), Aug 1, 2018: Champion 7GCBC (N57477), Big Creek, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
