## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT DEPARTED FRONT RANGE AIRPORT (FTG) FOR GREELEY, CO (GXY) AT APPROXIMATELY 10:50 AM LOCAL TIME ON 8/4/2018. THE BUILDER OF THE AIRCRAFT HAD PUT THE ENGINE INSTRUMENTS ON THE FAR LEFT SO THAT ONE COULD NOT SOLO THE AIRCRAFT EASILY FROM THE RIGHT SEAT. THE PILOT HAD FLOWN 29 HOURS FROM THE RIGHT SEAT, WITH APPROXIMATELY 90 LANDINGS. THIS FLIGHT, HE WANTED TO PRACTICE FLYING FROM THE LEFT SEAT.

THE APPROACH TO GXY AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30 AM WAS NORMAL UNTIL SHORT FINAL. AT THAT POINT, THE PILOT STATED HE ENCOUNTERED AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF SINK. HE ADDED POWER, BUT APPLIED TOO MUCH BACK PRESSURE. THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP AND APPARENTLY STALLED. THE NOSE GEAR STRUCK THE RUNWAY AT A STEEP ANGLE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP ABOUT 1500 FEET FURTHER DOWN THE RUNWAY. PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT ON THEIR OWN, BUT WITH INJURIES.

COMPLETION OF THIS INVESTIGATION WARRANTS THAT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ BE ADMINISTERED A 44709 RE-EXAMINATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA473](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA473), Aug 4, 2018: Vans RV6 (N56LK), Greeley, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack during approach, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
