## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 5, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 0910 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A SINGLE ENGINE BELLANCA CITABRIA, N90990 WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED UPON IMPACT. DURING THE APPROACH TO HIS PRIVATE RUNWAY THE PILOT THOUGHT HE HAD ENOUGH CLEARANCE TO AVOID THE GUIDE WIRES FOR THE FARM SPRINKER SYSTEM. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE WIRES AND CRASHED. THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND FLOWN TO A DENVER HOSPITAL. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) WERE REPORTED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN18LA316](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN18LA316), Aug 5, 2018: Champion 7GCBC (N90990), Wiley, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain proper clearance from the sprinkler guy-wire, which resulted in the airplane’s collision with the wire during a visual approach to landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
