## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM BOEING FIELD, WITH A STOP AT TACOMA, ENROUTE TO PORTLAND. JUST SOUTH OF THE SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON REGIONAL (KLS) AIRFIELD, THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING AND AN EMERGENCY LANDING WAS MADE IN A FIELD ONE MILE SOUTH OF THE KLS AIRFIELD.

POST-ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED LESS THAN 1/3 OF A GALLON OF FUEL REMAINING IN THE AIRCRAFTS RIGHT FUEL TANK, 34 GALLONS REMAINING IN THE AIRCRAFTS LEFT TANK, AND THE AIRCRAFT GASCOLATOR CONTAINED NO FUEL. INTERVIEW WITH PILOT REVEALED HE HAD NOT SWITCHED TANKS WHILE IN FLIGHT AND SUBSEQUENTLY RAN THE RIGHT TANK OUT OF FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR18TA243](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR18TA243), Aug 19, 2018: Beech 36 (N9031S), Kelso, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's fuel mismanagement, which led to fuel starvation, a total loss of engine power, and the subsequent forced landing to a field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
