ANOTHER AIRCRAFT THAT TOOK OFF BEHIND THEM SAW THEM LAND IN THE CANYON AND A FIRE STARTED SHORTLY AFTER.

PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE SEVERELY BURNED IN POST IMPACT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR18LA227](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR18LA227), Aug 18, 2018: Cessna 182 (N84CP), Salmon, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadvertent encounter with downdraft conditions, which resulted in a loss of altitude, and the pilot’s subsequent decision to conduct a precautionary landing into a stand of trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
