## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

8-18-2018 THE AIRCRAFT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE CONDUCTING A CHUCKER WILDLIFE SURVEY.

THE PILOT STATED WHILE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE GROUND A SUSPECTED MICRO BURST CAUSED THE AIRSPEED TO INDICATE ZERO WITH A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE HELICOPTER. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CUSHION THE IMPACT WITH THE GROUND BUT THE HELICOPTER LANDED HARD, SPINNING AND COMING TO REST ON IT'S RIGHT SIDE. ONE OF THE TWO PASSENGERS EXITING THE HELICOPTER ANNOUNCED FIRE. THE HELICOPTER WAS CONSUMED BY THE POST ACCIDENT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA512](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA512), Aug 18, 2018: Bell 206 (N8052G), Battle Mountain, NV, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain the proper altitude and airspeed while flying in a canyon in gusting wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
