## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING FULL STOP SOLO LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 30 AT PLK. UPON ROLLOUT FROM LANDING, THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT SUDDENLY VEERED LEFT OFF THE RUNWAY, THROUGH A GRASS AREA AND BACK ONTO THE ADJACENT TAXIWAY. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS UNSURE IF HE CAUSED THE DEPARTURE FROM THE RUNWAY BY CONFUSING THE BRAKE FOR THE RUDDER OR IF THERE WAS A BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE THAT STARTED THE CHAIN OF EVENTS. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A RUNWAY/TAXI LIGHT ASSEMBLY LEAVING A LARGE HOLE IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE RIGHT WING. THE NOSE AND RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR ASSEMBLIES WERE TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT UPON COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE LIP OF THE TAXIWAY AND GRASS TRANSITION ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA516](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA516), Aug 25, 2018: Piper PA28 (N7635F), Point Lookout, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's inadvertent left brake application during the landing roll, which resulted in a runway excursion and collision with runway lights.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
