## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 29, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 1600 CST, A CESSNA 177, N3484T, EXPERIENCED ENGINE PROBLEMS SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF WHILE DEPARTING PONCA CITY REGIONAL AIRPORT (PNC) PONCA CITY, OKLAHOMA. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME. THE PILOT REPORTED NOTICING A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE AFTER GLANCING AT THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND SEEING THAT THE OIL PRESSURE HAD DROPPED TO ZERO BUT ALSO NOTICED THAT OIL TEMPERATURE, CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURES, AND EGT WERE ALL READING NORMAL. THE PILOT DECIDED TO ATTEMPT A RETURN TO PNC BUT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE PILOT NOTICED THE CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURES INCREASING AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN VERY ROUGH. THE PILOT THEN DECIDED TO SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO LAND. UNABLE TO MAKE IT BACK TO PNC, THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON A RURAL DIRT ROAD APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES NORTHWEST OF PONCA CITY. AS A PART OF THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT PASSED THROUGH A STREET INTERSECTION AND THE LEFT WING CLIPPED A STOP SIGN WITH THE LEFT WINGTIP EXPERIENCING MINOR DAMAGE. NEITHER THE PILOT NOR THE PASSENGER WERE INJURED. POST LANDING INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE REVEALED THAT AN OIL LINE CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE HAD BROKEN OFF WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO LOSE OIL PRESSURE RESULTING IN ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND SUBSEQUENT EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE DIRT ROAD.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
