## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30P ADT, N95EA, CESSNA 180 DEPARTED YAKUTAT HARBOR FOR CORDOVA. DURING TAKEOFF, WHILE ON STEP, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A SMALL WAKE UNDER THE LEFT FLOAT, LIFTING THE FLOAT OUT OF THE WATER AND CAUSING THE RIGHT WINGTIP TO CONTACT THE WATER. DURING THE ACCIDENT SEQUENCE, THE LEFT WINGTIP ALSO STRUCK THE WATER BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST SUBMERGED ON THE LEFT SIDE. BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRCRAFT THROUGH THE RIGHT DOOR UNHARMED AND WERE IMMEDIATELY RESCUED BY LOCAL BOAT OPERATORS. THE WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS CLEAR WITH VERY LIGHT WINDS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA572](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA572), Sep 2, 2018: Cessna 180 (N95EA), Yakutat, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain lateral control of the airplane during a step-turn takeoff.

## Other reports on N95EA (2)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19870603052499I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870603052499I), Jun 3, 1987: Cessna 180H (N95EA), Chugiak, AK. Forced landing after power loss. Found fuel cap vents plugged with paint stripper.
- [Incident 19870402041809I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870402041809I), Apr 2, 1987: Cessna 180H (N95EA), Skwentna, AK, Minor damage. The right gear leg separated from the aircraft during taxi on a frozen lake. Nut gone, threads stripped from bolt.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
