## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AUTOMATED OBSERVATION DOCUMENTED WINDS 240 DEGREES AT 9 , GUSTING 20. AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RWY 9 WITH A SLIGHT TAILWIND USING THE WHEEL LANDING METHOD. PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO THE TAILWHEEL CONTACTING THE RUNWAY. DEPARTURE FROM THE RUNWAY WITH THE ASSOCIATED GROUND LOOP FOLLOWED. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AS THE AIRCRAFT SLID SIDEWAYS DEPARTING THE RUNWAY CROSSING UNIMPROVED AREA, TAXIWAY, AND FINALLY CAME TO REST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PARALLEL TAXIWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA548](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA548), Sep 11, 2018: Vans Vans RV 8 (N289MM), Carson, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced landing, and his subsequent failure to maintain directional control in gusting, right quartering tailwind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
