## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) , AND PILOT SEEKING AN INSTRUMENT RATING (OWNER) WERE PRACTICING IFR APPROACHES. THE AIRCRAFT IS EQUIPPED WITH ALASKAN BUSH TIRES. THE CFI PLANNED ON A WHEEL LANDING. CFI STATED HIS SPEED WAS A LITTLE FASTER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN UPON TOUCH DOWN, AND THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ONCE. IT WAS NOT PERCIEVED AS A SEVERE BOUNCE. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED AGAIN, AND THEN BOTH THE CFI AND OWNER HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. THE CFI INITIATED A GO AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED BACK OUT AND FLEW NORMALLY. HOWEVER THE OWNER WAS IN THE LEFT SEAT AND STATED HE FELT A VIBRATION UNDER HIS FLOORBOARD. THE CFI WAS CONTROLLING THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE RIGHT SEAT. BOTH PERSONS ONBOARD SUSPECTED A DAMAGED LEFT TIRE. THEY DISCUSSED HOW THE AIRCRAFT WOULD REACT UPON LANDING. IT WAS DECIDED TO PERFORM A NORMAL LANDING , BUT APPLY A LITTLE MORE RIGHT SIDE BRAKING IN THE EVENT THE AIRCRAFT PULLED TO THE LEFT WITH A FLAT TIRE. THE CFI STATED THAT HE PERFORMED A NORMAL 3 POINT LANDING, AS THE CFI APPLIED BRAKING, THE LEFT GEAR AND TIRE BEGAN TO VIBRATE AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED. JUST PRIOR TO THE AIRCRAFT STOPPING, THE LEFT GEAR COLLASPED. THE LEFT WING TIP HIT THE GROUND, PROPELLER IMPACTED THE GROUND, AND THE ENGINE STOPPED

- [NTSB ERA18LA270](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA18LA270), Sep 11, 2018: Maule M7 (N969AW), Floresville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The separation of the left inboard main landing gear (MLG) attachment bolt due to insufficient torque, which resulted in the collapse of the left MLG.
