## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 1256 ZULU TIME N388ME, A PIPER APACHE SERIAL NUMBER 23-322 TAXIED TO THE RUN UP AREA FOR RUNWAY 28 AT FAIRFIELD COUNTY AIRPORT (LHQ). APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES LATER, THE PILOT NOTICED A LOWERING OF THE RPM AND EVENTUALLY TOTAL FAILURE OF THE RIGHT ENGINE AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT SMOKE AND FIRE WAS OBSERVED EMANATING FROM THE RIGHT ENGINE. THE PILOT SHUTDOWN AND QUICKLY EXITED THE AIRCRAFT ALONG WITH HIS PASSENGER. THE FIRE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY EXTINGUISH BY AIRPORT PERSONNEL AND THE GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
