## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN HAD BEEN PERFORMING MULTIPLE TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS ON A BEACH NEAR PELICAN POINT ON UTAH LAKE. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT THE OBSERVED WIND WAS OUT OF THE SOUTH AND THAT HIS TAKEOFF AND LANDING DIRECTION WAS SOUTH SOUTHEAST. ON THE LAST TAKEOFF ATTEMPT THE AIRMAN SAID THAT HE STARTED THE TAKEOFF ROLL IN A FEW INCHES OF WATER HEADING TOWARD THE BEACH AND HAD REACHED ABOUT 25 KTS INDICATED AIRSPEED WHEN HE REACHED THE BEACH. HE STATED THAT SHORTLY AFTER REACHING THE BEACH A GUST OF WIND BLEW HIM TO THE LEFT WHICH LED TO THE LEFT TIRE COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE WATER AGAIN. THIS CREATED ENOUGH DRAG TO PULL THE ENTIRE AIRCRAFT LEFT AND INTO THE WATER. THE AIRMAN SAID THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL BUT ULTIMATELY ENDED WITH THE AIRCRAFT UPSIDE DOWN IN ABOUT 12 INCHES OF WATER. THE AIRMAN WAS ABLE TO EXTRACT HIMSELF FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND RETURN TO THE BEACH.

THE WIND REPORTED AT PROVO AIRPORT ABOUT 7.7 MILES FROM THE ACCIDENT SITE AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT WAS 210 @ 11 KTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA576](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA576), Sep 29, 2018: Raymon A. King Super CUB Replica (N1698K), Saratoga Springs, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll with crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
