## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 18, THE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND DEPARTED THE PAVED SURFACE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY ENTERED THE GRASSY AREA ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, FLIPPED OVER AND CAME TO REST INVERTED IN A DITCH. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE TOUCHDOWN AND INITIAL PORTION OF THE ROLLOUT WERE NORMAL, BUT THAT AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED DOWN THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO VEER TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO USE RIGHT RUDDER CORRECTION, BUT IT WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. THE PILOT THEN ADDED POWER AND ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO ATTAIN SUFFICIENT SPEED PRIOR TO THE AIRCRAFT NOSE AND MAIN WHEELS IMPACTING THE DITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA012](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA012), Oct 7, 2018: Bearden Biplane Sopwith Camel (N225JB), Bolivar, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
