## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 10 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 1100 HOURS, WHILE CONDUCTING A VFR CROSS COUNTRY SOLO TRAINING FLIGHT N2250, A PA-28 AIRCRAFT, EXPERIENCED A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE, FOLLOWED BY A

LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

THE STUDENT PILOT CONDUCTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING TO AN OPEN FIELD RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WINGS AND NOSE LANDING GEAR.

THE INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR FOUND THE STUDENT PILOT TO BE FORTHCOMING, COOPERATIVE, AND TO HAVE A CONSTRUCTIVE AND COMPLIANT ATTITUDE. A SEARCH OF FAA DATABASES DID NOT PRODUCE ANY PREVIOUS VIOLATIONS, ACCIDENTS, OR INCIDENTS.

THIS REPORT MAY BE REVISED WITH ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR19LA003](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR19LA003), Oct 8, 2018: Piper PA28 (N2250S), Grass Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel starvation and the pilot's mismanagement of the available fuel.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
