## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 12, 2018, AT APPROXIMATELY 1045 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME, N729TG, A CIRRUS SR22 AIRPLANE IMPACTED A PARKING LOT FOLLOWING A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTING THE MIDLAND AIRPARK (MDD), MIDLAND, TEXAS. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES, AND THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 91 AS A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT. DAY INSTRUMENT METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED FOR THE FLIGHT.

THE PILOT REPORTED SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE AT APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL, THE ENGINE "SURGED". HE TURNED BACK TOWARD THE AIRPORT; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND PILOT WAS UNABLE TO RESTORE ENGINE POWER. THE PILOT RECOGNIZED THE AIRPLANE WOULD NOT MAKE IT BACK TO THE AIRPORT, SO HE DEPLOYED THE CIRRUS AIRFRAME PARACHUTE SYSTEM (CAPS). THE AIRPLANE DESCENDED UNDER THE PARACHUTE INTO A PARKING LOT AND IMPACTED A PARKED AUTOMOBILE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN19LA002](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN19LA002), Oct 12, 2018: Cirrus SR22 (N729TG), Midland, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to excessive fuel flow.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
