## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ACCIDENT PILOT STATED HE LOST CONTROL WHILE TAXIING. A WITNESS SAID THE ACCIDENT PILOT CARRIED TOO MUCH SPEED INTO THE FLARE, BOUNCED AND DRIFTED OFF THE 20 FOOT WIDE RUNWAY ALIGHTING IN A FIELD OF TUMBLEWEEDS. AT THAT POINT THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED ONTO ITS BACK . ACCIDENT SCENE PHOTOS SUPPORT THE WITNESS' VERSION. THERE ARE NO TAXI TRAILS THROUGH THE TUMBLEWEEDS, ONLY AN AIRCRAFT ON ITS BACK. ALSO, THE ACCIDENT PILOT REPORTED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO A WING TIP. PHOTOS FROM THE RESPONDING DEPUTY AND FROM AN A&P MECHANIC SHOW SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA023](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA023), Oct 13, 2018: Skystar Kitfox SER 5 Safari (N14GX), Monte Vista, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare in gusting crosswind conditions, which resulted in a hard, bounced landing and his subsequent failure to maintain directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
