## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT ROUTE: LEE GILMER MEMORIAL (KGVL) TO MACON COUNTY AIRPORT (KIA5). PILOT REPORTED, THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING AT APPROXIMATELY 47 MINUTES AFTER DEPARTURE FROM KGVL. PILOT IMMEDIATELY SET CARBURETOR HEAT TO FULL ON, FULL RICH MIXTURE, AND CONFIRMED THE FUEL SHUT-OFF WAS PUSHED FULLY IN. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. PILOT FORCED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT OFF AIRPORT IN A FIELD LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 9 MILES TO THE SOUTH OF K1A5. VERIFIED AIRCRAFT HAD FUEL ON-BOARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA19TA051](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA19TA051), Nov 16, 2018: Cessna E162 (N70252), Franklin, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delay in applying carburetor heat, which resulted in a total loss of engine power during descent due to carburetor icing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
