## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT PILOT WAS ON A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY. MISS-MANAGED THE FUEL BY NOT CHANGING TANKS. RAN THE RIGHT TANK COMPLETELY OUT OF FUEL 6 MILES FROM DESIGNATION AIRPORT. THE PIC SELECTED AN FIELD AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. THE STUDENT PILOTS FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS "LONG" CROSS COUNTRY HAD TO INCORPORATE THE THREE REQUIRED CLASS D CONTROL TOWER LANDINGS AND THEY HAD TO BE COMBINED WITH THE CROSSCOUNTRY. THE PIC STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGES WERE CHECKED PRIOR TO TAKEOFF AT THE SECOND POINT OF LANDING BUT THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS NOT SWITCHED TO THE FULLER TANK PRIOR TO TAKEOFF.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
