## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT SMALL AIRSTRIP ON MONTAGUE ISLAND, APPROX. 50 NM EAST OF SEWARD, AK.

AIRCRAFT HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS ON LANDING ON PREVIOUS FLIGHT WHEN ARRIVING AT MONTAGUE ISLAND. SIGNIFICANT WATER WAS DISCOVERED IN LEFT FUEL TANK UPON INSPECTION.

PILOT DRAINED WATER FROM TANK AND THOUGHT HE HAD CLEANED ALL OF IT FROM FUEL SYSTEM.

AIRMAN RAN ENGINE APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES PRIOR TO TAKEOFF WITH NO PROBLEMS.

JUST AFTER ROTATION ON TAKEOFF, AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND SETTLED INTO TREES AT END OF RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. BOTH OCCUPANTS ESCAPED AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT, BUT INJURED HANDS BREAKING SIDE WINDOWS TO GET OUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC19LA008](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC19LA008), Nov 27, 2018: Cessna 172 (N7207A), Whittier, AK, destroyed. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined based on the available evidence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
