As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 27, 2018 STUDENT PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS DOING PATTERN WORK, ON HIS FIFTH LANDING WHICH WAS A FULL STOP AND GO, HE SET THE AIRCRAFT FOR A SOFT FIELD TAKE OFF. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SET THE FLAPS TO 10 DEGREES, TRIMMED TAKE OFF, CHECKED INSTRUMENTS AND APPLIED FULL POWER; AS SOON AS HE DID THAT THE AIRPLANE STARTED DRIFTING TO THE LEFT, HE TRIED TO CORRECT WITH RIGHT RUDDER HOWEVER THE DRIFT TO THE LEFT INTENSIFIED. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA119](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA119), Dec 27, 2018: Cessna 172 (N17SJ), Sugar Land, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during takeoff, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with a sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
