## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PERSUANT TO THE PILOT'S STATEMENT: THE PILOTS WERE DOING COMMERCIAL POWER OFF 180 LANDING ON 17 TURF AT STEARMAN. PULLED POWER AT PATTERN ALTITUDE TO IDLE ABEAM NUMBERS ON DOWNWIND, LOWERED 10 OF FLAPS, AND TURNED TOWARD RUNWAY. THE STUDENT LINED UP WITH THE RUNWAY FOR LANDING AND LANDED JUST SHORT OF THE TARGET SPOT. ONCE WHEELS TOUCHED, THE PLANE'S NOSE VEERED RIGHT. THE INSTRUCTOR WENT FOR LEFT RUDDER, AND POWERING UP DID NOT CORRECT NOSE TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A TREE AND HOUSE EAST OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA161](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA161), Mar 11, 2019: Cessna L19 (N4431C), Benton, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's receiving instruction’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in impact with trees and a house.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
