## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHEN LANDING, THE PILOT STATED HE INITIALLY TOUCHED DOWN ON THE MAIN LANDING GEAR. WHEN THE NOSE WHEEL TOUCHED THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE PILOT CORRECTED BACK TOWARD THE CENTERLINE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. AGAIN, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TOWARD THE LEFT RUNWAY EDGE, DEPARTED THE PAVEMENT AND STRUCK A RUNWAY DISTANCE MARKER. THE IMPACT SPUN THE AIRCRAFT SIDEWAYS TO THE LEFT CAUSING THE COLLAPSE OF THE RIGHT MAIN AND NOSE LANDING GEAR. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, SO HE SECURED AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH HIS PASSENGERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR19LA098](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR19LA098), Mar 17, 2019: Piper PA 24 (N5028P), Reno, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: Failure of the engine mount due to internal corrosion and wall thinning, which resulted in a loss of directional control and nose gear collapse during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
