## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT PILOT WAS ON A LOCAL SOLO FLIGHT HEADED WESTBOUND ALONG THE BEACH AT 500 FEET MSL. HIS AIRPLANE HIT A BANNER BEING TOWED EASTBOUND. PILOT RETURNED TO THE JACK EDWARDS AIRPORT AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE. INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR DID NOT NOTE ANY SPAR DAMAGE. BANNER TOW PILOT STATED THAT BANNER SAFETY RELEASE MECHANISM FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. BANNER RELEASED AUTOMATICALLY WHEN AIRPLANE HIT IT. BANNER TOW AIRPLANE WAS NOT DAMAGED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
