## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF A SIMULATED ENGINE OUT PROCEDURE ON RUNWAY 021, HE PULLED ENGINE POWER THEN INITIATED A TURN TO RUNWAY 030. ON CROSSWIND AT APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET, PILOT NOTICED A "SINK" AND ADDED FULL POWER, BUT THE SINK CONTINUED. THE PILOT BELIEVES A GUST OF WIND COMING FROM BEHIND THE AIRCRAFT WAS THE REASON FOR THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED HARD BREAKING OFF THE LEFT HAND MAIN GEAR AND NOSE GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT NOSE, FUSELAGE AND WINGS THEN STRUCK THE GROUND. THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS SO EXTENSIVE IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA242), May 5, 2019: Flight Design Ctls (N175LM), Sandy Valley, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's steep bank turn at low altitude, which resulted in a rapid descent and hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
