## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MAY 25, 2019, INSTRUCTOR PILOT AND STUDENT PILOT WERE CONDUCTING TRAINING ON SOFT FIELD TAKE-OFFS (GRASS STRIP). THE FIRST TWO TAKE-OFFS WERE CONDUCTED BY THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT WITH NO ISSUES. THE THIRD TAKE OFF WAS ATTEMPTED BY THE STUDENT PILOT. THE STUDENT PILOT APPLIED BACKPRESSURE ON THE CONTROLS AND APPLIED POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO BE ACCELERATING SLOWER THAN NORMAL. AT APPROXIMATELY 40 KNOTS, THE TAIL CONTACTED THE GROUND, THE RIGHT WING DIPPED, AND THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO YAW TO THE RIGHT. FULL LEFT AILERON AND LEFT PEDAL WERE APPLIED TO CORRECT THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO EFFECT. THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED ON THE GROUND WITH THE RIGHT WING LOW IN A RIGHT TURN. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND THE NOSE GEAR SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED OUTWARD UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE. THE ENGINE HALTED WHEN THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET FROM WHERE IT CONTACTED THE GROUND. BOTH PILOTS WERE UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA287](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA287), May 25, 2019: Jihlavan Airplanes Sro KP5 (N235KP), East Haddam, CT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain the proper airspeed and his exceedance of the airplane's critical angle of attack during takeoff, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
