## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PIC ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN THE TALKEETNA MOUNTAINS. THE PIC WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT UNTIL IT GOT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL WHEN IT FLIPPED OVER ONTO ITS BACK CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE, WINGS AND EMPENNAGE. THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED, HE WAS ABLE TO CLIMB FROM THE PLANE AND CALL A FRIEND WHO FLEW AND PICKED HIM UP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS LIFTED OFF THE MOUNTAIN BY A HELICOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA388](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA388), Jul 5, 2019: Piper PA18 (N5830C), Talkeetna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper decision to land on rough, grassy terrain, which resulted in a nose-over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
