## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N83BA DEPARTED EAGLE CREEK AIRPORT, IN (KEYE) FOR A VFR FLIGHT TO CHICAGO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (KPWK). AT APPROXIMATELY 8:40 PM LOCAL, THE PILOT REPORTED TO KPWK TOWER THAT HE WAS OUT OF FUEL AND THAT THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A FOREST PRESERVE APPROXIMATELY 1.4 NM NORTHEAST OF KPWK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN19LA220](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN19LA220), Jul 12, 2019: Icon A5 (N83BA), Wheeling, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to operate the engine above its maximum continuous speed for most of the flight, which led to fuel exhaustion and a subsequent total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
