## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT FLEW A RIGHT HAND PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 23. ON FINAL, EXPERIENCED TURBULENCE AND APPROXIMATELY A 22+ KNOT LEFT QUARTERING HEADWIND WITH GUSTS. PILOT PLANNED A 3-POINT LANDING, BUT AT VREF ON SHORT FINAL, EXPERIENCED A "SINKER" AND THE "TAILWHEEL HIT SHORT OF THE RUNWAY." AFTER LANDING AND TAXIING TO THE SOUTH END OF THE 4,100 FT RUNWAY, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE RUNWAY AND THE TAILWHEEL COLLAPSED INTO THE FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA492](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA492), Aug 1, 2019: Douglas DC3C (N59314), Kenai, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain a proper approach path in gusting crosswind wind conditions, which resulted in landing short of the runway and impact with a ditch and runway light.

## Other reports on N59314 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19790627037279A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19790627037279A), Jun 27, 1979: Doug DC3 (N59314), Bettles, AK, Substantial damage. Landed fast and downwind half way down rwy. Unable to stop with heavy braking. Ground looped to stop.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
