## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A STUDENT PILOT WAS ON HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO TAKE OFF?S AND LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 23 AT HEMET RYAN AIRPORT (KHMT). ON THE APPROACH TO THE THIRD LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT WAS COMING IN TOO FAST AT APPROXIMATELY 60 KNOTS. AFTER TOUCH DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO VEER TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. AS THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO VEER TO THE LEFT, THE STUDENT REACTED BY APPLYING FULL THROTTLE TO PERFORM A TOUCH AND GO, BUT DID NOT APPLY RIGHT RUDDER IN ATTEMPT TO GET THE AIRCRAFT BACK ON TO THE CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY, THROUGH A DITCH AND STOPPED IN A FIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA508](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA508), Aug 22, 2019: Piper PA28 (N16435), Hemet, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control while attempting to go around, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with a ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
