## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN DESCENDED TO LOOK AT A RIDGETOP SO THAT IT COULD BE EVALUATED AS A LANDING SURFACE. TOPOGRAPHIC MAP DATA INDICATES RISING TERRAIN. POST-CRASH INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED BY FISH AND WILDLIFE OFFICER OF THE PILOT AND THE STATE TROOPER WHO FLEW IN TO RESCUE THE PILOT AND HIS SON, STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AS THE PILOT WAS TRYING TO CLIMB OVER A RIDGE. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH POWER TO MAINTAIN THE REQUIRED RATE OF CLIMB TO OUT-CLIMB THE TERRAIN.THE PILOT DID NOT REPORT THE ACCIDENT TO THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD OR FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION AS REQUIRED. ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED BY FISH AND WILDLIFE OFFICER APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC19CA057](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC19CA057), Aug 30, 2019: Piper PA22 (N7056D), Arctic Village, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed while maneuvering to avoid mountainous terrain, which resulted in the airplane exceeding its critical angle of attack and an aerodynamic stall.

## Other reports on N7056D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19800120016239I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19800120016239I), Jan 20, 1980: Piper PA22150 (N7056D), Dunsmuir, CA, Minor damage. Took off with fuel selector on empty tank. Engine quit on climb out. Plane damaged by forced landing back at airport

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
