PILOT DECIDED TO TAXI DOWNWIND BEFORE TAKE-OFF. PILOT WAS TAXING FROM THE FRONT SEAT, THEN STATED ONCE IN POSITION FOR TAKE-OFF, HE WOULD MOVE TO THE BACKSEAT. DURING TAXI HE STATED THEIR WAS A GUST OF WIND AT THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA19CA539](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA19CA539), Sep 4, 2019: Piper J3C (N7326H), Winfield, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain proper wind correction input during taxi in a gusting tailwind, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
