## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING TAKEOFF THE PILOT OBSERVED THAT THE AIRSPEED INDICATOR DID NOT RISE ABOVE 40 KNOTS. HE ATTEMPTED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF TOO FAR DOWN THE 2400 FOOT RUNWAY TO BE ABLE TO STOP. HE STRUCK THE PROP ON THE RUNWAY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND AND SKIDDED OFF OF THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE RUNWAY ENDS AT THE TOP OF A HILL ABOVE US RT 50 AND HE STRUCK A VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP ON IMPACTING THE HIGHWAY LANE SEPARATOR BARRIER.

THE AIRCRAFT LEFT WING WAS SEPARATED AT THE WING ROOT, THE RIGHT WING WAS CRUMPLED BY THE IMPACT WITH THE HIGHWAY BARRIER AND THE FUSELAGE WAS WARPED. THE PROPELLER WAS DAMAGED BY IMPACT WITH THE RUNWAY DURING THE ATTEMPT TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT.

THE VEHICLE STRUCK WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR, WITH THE WINDSHIELD SMASHED AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE CRUMPLED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA19LA269](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA19LA269), Sep 12, 2019: Mooney M20J (N202JB), Bowie, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A blockage of the pitot static system that preclude the airspeed indicator from displaying speeds greater than 40 mph, which led the pilot to abort the landing and overrun the runway.

## Other reports on N202JB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19810905061969A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19810905061969A), Sep 5, 1981: Mooney M20J (N202JB), Mapleton, ND, Substantial damage. Encountered wind shear on short final. Dropped to runway with partial recovery. Impact severed landing gear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
