## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N2FB WAS DESTROYED AFTER IMPACT WITH TERRAIN NEAR THE HBI AIRPORT. THE PRIVATE PILOT RATED AIRCRAFT OWNER AND A STUDENT PILOT RATED PILOT BOTH PERISHED. IT IS UNCLEAR WHO WAS AT THE CONTROLS OF THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. A THIRD PILOT HAD FLOWN FROM HBI TO DKX EARLIER IN THE DAY AND STATED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP ON THE AIRCRAFT WAS KNOWN TO BE INOPERATIVE. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED WHILE RETURNING TO HBI FROM DKX. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN NIGHT VMC CONDITIONS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20FA002](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20FA002), Oct 5, 2019: Piper PA28 (N2FB), Asheboro, NC, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of airplane control due to spatial disorientation, which resulted in a collision with terrain. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s lack of recent night flight experience.

## Other reports on N2FB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19950903031919I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19950903031919I), Sep 3, 1995: Piper PA28180 (N2FB), Block Island, RI, Minor damage. Porpoised on landing. Blew nose tire. Damaged propeller.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
